Top 5 Tips for Your Spring Renovation Project

[ngg src=”galleries” ids=”33″ display=”basic_thumbnail” thumbnail_crop=”0″]You’ve been dreaming about it for years.  You can see the fixtures, the flooring; it’s all coming together in your mind.  You know you are ready to start that home renovation project, but you are not sure where to begin.

For many, a home renovation project can seem daunting.  Our expert project managers at Chriscan have compiled a list of five key items to consider in your planning.

 1) Prioritize

Make a wish list of your absolute must haves and don’t compromise on those items. It’s better to cut some things out, than to get everything you want at a substandard level.

 2) Schedule

Consider all of the factors that will affect the timing of your project.  If you are opening your home to the elements, maybe a late spring start would be best.  Are you planning any vacations? Consider if you will be able to make all time sensitive decisions before your departure.

Be wary of planning a renovation project in stages.  It will almost always cost more in the end, and will double your construction time.

 3) Living Arrangements

Be realistic when you consider how construction could affect your living situation; consider finding an alternative dwelling, especially if there are kids in the home.

Do not attempt to live in any of the areas where and when the work is to take place, this will only shorten your patience with the process.

 4) Budget

In order to establish if your budget is realistic you will need to define all the components that may be affected by what you are proposing to do.  Determine if you will need to move out for the duration of the project.  Consider the quality of finishings that are on your list of “must haves”.

 5) Always remember that you get what you pay for.
